Cartilage (CART) is a peer-reviewed quarterly journal on the musculoskeletal system with particular attention to cartilage repair, development, function, degeneration, transplantation, and rehabilitation. Aimed at researchers and clinicians involved in cartilage biology and repair, CART publishes full length original manuscripts on all types of cartilage including articular, nasal, auricular, tracheal/bronchial, and intervertebral disc fibrocartilage.

Cell Transplantation publishes original, peer-reviewed research and review articles on the subject of cell transplantation and its application to human diseases. To ensure high-quality contributions from all areas of transplantation, separate section editors and editorial boards have been established. Articles deal with a wide range of topics including physiological, medical, preclinical, tissue engineering, and device-oriented aspects of transplantation of nervous system, endocrine, growth factor-secreting, bone marrow, epithelial, endothelial, and genetically engineered cells, among others. Basic clinical studies and immunological research papers are also featured. To provide complete coverage of this revolutionary field, Cell Transplantation will report on relevant technological advances, and ethical and regulatory considerations of cell transplants. Cell Transplantation is now an Open Access journal starting with volume 18 in 2009, and therefore there will be an inexpensive publication charge, which is dependent on the number of pages, in addition to the charge for color figures. This will allow work to be disseminated to a wider audience and also entitle the corresponding author to a free PDF, as well as prepublication of an unedited version of the manuscript.

Cell and Tissue Banking provides a forum for disseminating information to scientists and clinicians involved in the banking and transplantation of cells and tissues. Cell and Tissue Banking is an international, peer-reviewed journal that publishes original papers in such areas as quality assurance and control of banked cells and tissues; preservation and sterilization methods; clinical applications of banked cells and tissues; standards of practice in procurement, processing, storage and distribution; and ethical and medico-legal issues. Research is presented in the form of full-length papers describing original work; short communications for rapid publication; and mini- and full-length reviews of topical issues.

The primary aims of the Journal are to provide a means of communicating the advances being made in the areas of biomechanics and biomedical engineering and to stimulate interest in the continually emerging computer based technologies which are being applied in these multidisciplinary subjects. The Journal will also provide a focus for the importance of integrating the disciplines of engineering with medical technology and clinical expertise. Such integration will have a major impact on health care in the future. High quality research articles form the main body of the Journal. These contributed papers will cover both the engineering and clinical aspects of computer methods in biomedical engineering. Biomedical engineering has been characterized as the application of concepts drawn from engineering, computing, communications, mathematics, and the physical sciences to scientific and applied problems in the field of medicine and biology. Concepts and methodologies in biomedical engineering extend throughout the medical and biological sciences. This journal attempts to critically review a wide range of research and applied activities in the field. More often than not, topics chosen for inclusion are concerned with research and practice issues of current interest. Experts writing each review bring together current knowledge and historical information that has led to the current state-of-the-art. Each issue contains one or more critical reviews of specified topics representing applied, clinical and basic science areas. Most articles contain in-depth appraisals of the current state-of-the-art in a specific area of research or practice and provide complete and up-to-date bibliographies. Each review attempts to be nearly exhaustive in a constrained area rather than broad and overarching. The critical evaluations of current research and development issues include interpretive discussions of major problems. From time to time, a series of articles in a related topic area are published in order to give comprehensive coverage. Collaborative works generated by multiple authors are frequently used to provide in-depth coverage from multiple viewpoints. Each article is reviewed by one or more independent experts in the field. Cytotechnology incorporating Methods in Cell Science is an international journal covering up-to-date developments, methods and techniques in cell culture research involving in vitro systems, as well as the applications of that research in human and veterinary medicine, toxicology, animal and plant cell biotechnology. The aim is to centralize information on both the infrastructure of cell technology and the applied use of cell cultures and thus generate a better understanding of the many facets and disciplines needed to develop successful cell culture processes. Topics include the derivation, genetic modification and characterization of cell lines, cell culture techniques, cell culture systems, processes, reactors, scale-up, and industrial production, and the application of cells in a range of investigations, including application in gene therapy and tissue engineering. The journal publishes original papers, reviews, short communications, meeting reports and book reviews.

Disability and Rehabilitation: Assistive Technology along with Disability and Rehabilitation seek to encourage a better understanding of all aspects of disability and to promote rehabilitation science, practice and policy aspects of the rehabilitation process. Taken together, both journals represent an important forum for the dissemination and exchange of ideas amongst global health practitioners and researchers. 

The mission of Disability and Rehabilitation: Assistive Technology is to advance the practice and science of interdisciplinary and integrative assistive technology service delivery and product design internationally so that persons with disabilities, chronic illnesses, and challenges to the performance of activities and participation in life roles, achieve enhanced functioning and life quality. 

Assistive technology focuses on both equipping individuals with the most appropriate technologies and also removing barriers to functioning that exist in the environment.  Topics range from everyday/mainstream to specialized devices, and include: exoskeltons and robotics; smart homes; information and communication technologies and computerized systems; ergonomics; universal design; ambient assistive technology; telerehabilitation; job and environmental accommodations; and methods of service delivery.  

Disability and Rehabilitation: Assistive Technology is an international and multidisciplinary journal, published six times a year. The Journal publishes review articles and original research on assistive technology devices, services, user experiences, education and training, and policies. The journal also publishes supplements, special issues and special sections. Because the field is broad, submissions include experimental investigations, survey research, case studies, systematic reviews and product development and testing. Theoretical and conceptual papers and the discussion of professional issues and international/national policies and standards are also published.

Footwear Science publishes reports of original research in the disciplines of biomechanics, ergonomics, physiology, clinical science, kinanthropometry, physics, engineering and mathematics. The use of footwear or footwear components, or application of the results to footwear is a major component of the research published in this international, peer-reviewed Journal. Methodological as well as experimental papers may be submitted, and the journal accepts original articles, reviews and perspective articles (usually by editorial invitation only), book reviews and letters to the Editor. The criteria for acceptance of manuscripts include: scientific excellence and rigor, novelty, significance, clarity, conciseness and interest to our broad readership. Papers published in the journal may cover a wide range of topics within the broad scope of footwear science, including, but not limited to: * Influence of footwear on kinematics and kinetics of human movement * Influence of footwear and footwear design on human performance * Applications of research to design of all types of functional and purpose-built footwear * Research applied to casual, dress, fashion, duty, athletic, and specialty footwear * Footwear in prevention and treatment of diseases of lower extremity * Role of footwear in the prevention and treatment of athletic injury * Shoe properties and human perceptions * Human factors applied to fit and function of footwear * Measurement of footwear biomechanical and physical properties Review Articles Footwear Science accepts submission of manuscripts that review the literature on a particular topic and present an analysis of the current status of that topic. These are not original research articles with new data but represent well-balanced summaries of timely subjects, with reference to the literature. Review articles are usually invited by the Editor-in-Chief, although they can be submitted unsolicited. All review articles, even if invited, are peer reviewed. To help to facilitate this process it is suggested that the author of the review contact the Editor-in-Chief in advance of submission to discuss the proposed topic. The required format for review articles is similar to that used for research articles, with the exception that headings such as 'Methodolgy,' 'Results and Discussion,' and 'Conclusions' should be replaced with more appropriate headings, consistent with the contents of the article. Review articles published by Footwear Science are intended primarily for informed scientists who works in the broad disciplines that encompass footwear science, for example: biomechanics, ergonomics, physiology, clinical science, kinanthropometry, physics, engineering, materials science, and mathematics.. Manuscripts should both present a summary and a critical evaluation of significant investigations and provide suggestions for further research. We also welcome reviews that discuss recent technical or theoretical advances, topics of unusual interest, or, core questions about the foundations of footwear science. Theoretical papers should clearly identify the focus of study, review the relevant literature, and develop approaches to new levels of understanding. We are always looking for a balanced approach in Footwear Science review articles. Whenever possible the author should include all relevant literature showing the broadest possible basis for the review and the author's perspectives. Although the main thrust of reviews should be to summarize what is known about a particular topic area based on a rigorous review of the scientific literature, we expect that review authors may wish to offer some opinion and give a perspective, or, perhaps even speculate, if such speculation has a basis in scientific evidence. An abstract of 200 to 250 words is required; for more information on format, see instructions for authors. We have no limit on the length of review articles, however, we are always looking for concise and lucid treatments of the topic under review. All published research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymous refereeing by independent expert referees.
