The Quarterly Journal of Speech (QJS) publishes articles and book reviews of interest to those who take a rhetorical perspective on the texts, discourses, and cultural practices by which public beliefs and identities are constituted, empowered, and enacted. Rhetorical scholarship now cuts across many different intellectual, disciplinary, and political vectors, and QJS seeks to honor and address the interanimating effects of such differences. No single project, whether modern or postmodern in its orientation, or local, national, or global in its scope, can suffice as the sole locus of rhetorical practice, knowledge and understanding. Accordingly, QJS adopts an ecumenical attitude towards the full array of best scholarship being produced under rhetoric's broad purview, including work that advances and enriches long standing intellectual traditions, as well as theory and criticism that seeks to forge new intellectual frontiers. The journal publishes quantitative and qualitative studies, case studies, action research studies, research syntheses, integrative reviews, and interpretations of research literature. AMLE's Research Advisory Committee provides guidance for the publication. The Middle Level Education Research (MLER) Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) endorses RMLE Online.

Review Process

Research in Middle Level Education Online (RMLE Online) uses a triple-blind review process. Manuscripts are initially reviewed by the Editor. Manuscripts that meet the journal's standards are forwarded to three reviewers who serve on the Editorial Review Board. A decision regarding publication is typically reached within two months of the date the manuscript is sent out for review. This decision is communicated to the corresponding author by email.

C. elegans RDE-4 is a double-stranded RNA binding protein that has been shown to play a key role in response to foreign double-stranded RNA (dsRNA). We have used diverse tools for analysis of gene function to characterize the domain and organismal foci of RDE-4 action in C. elegans. First, we examined the focus of activity within the RDE-4 protein, by testing a series of RDE-4 deletion constructs for their ability to support dsRNA-triggered gene silencing. These assays indicated a molecular requirement for a linker region and the second dsRNA-binding domain of RDE-4, with ancillary contributions to function from the C and N terminal domains. Taylor & Francis is pleased to announce that Radiation Effects and Defects in Solids is incorporating Plasma Science and Plasma Technology. Researchers in these fields are invited to submit their papers.Radiation Effects and Defects in Solids publishes experimental and theoretical papers of both a fundamental and applied nature that contribute to the understanding of defects and phenomena induced by the interaction of all types of radiation with condensed matter. The range of contributions encompasses: radiation physics; radiochemistry; radiobiology and physical effects of medical irradiation, including research on radiative cell degeneration; optical, electrical and mechanical effects of radiation; and their secondary effects such as diffusion and particle emission from surfaces; plasma techniques and plasma phenomena. Topics covered include atomic and electronic properties of defects induced by radiation; the influence of such defects on lattice properties and processes; the lattice-defect approach to solid state reactions such as clustering, precipitation, laser annealing and the role of impurities; the defect dynamics in a non-steady state such as under-particle or electromagnetic irradiation, or during rapid temperature change; radiation enhanced oxidation; problems associated with the metastable nature of amorphous materials and surface modifications.Emphasis will also be put on plasma related topics such as Laser-generated plasma, plasma diagnostics, laser-plasma interaction, Equilibrium and non-equilibrium plasmas, ion emission from plasmas, particles emission from plasmas, photon emission from plasmas, plasma production techniques and plasma behavior under various conditions, dielectric barrier discharges, instabilities and fluctuations, zonal flows, effects in plasma and fusion reactors, magnetospheres, and problems of surface and interface treatment such as coatings and thin film formation and material180;s adhesion and attachment of particles and biomatter.Materials studied may include: semiconductors; polymers and other organic materials; biomatter; and inorganic compounds such as metal oxides, high Tc superconductors and minerals. Submissions discussing biomaterials and nanomaterials are particularly encouraged. Rare Diseases

Aims & Scope: Rare Diseases is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes high-quality research addressing the underlying mechanisms of rare diseases. In the US, a disease or disorder is considered rare when it affects less than 200,000 people at any given time. In the EU, a disease or disorder is considered rare when it affects less than 1 in 2,000 people. Our goals are to publish original research articles and to raise awareness about rare diseases. Rare Diseases covers a range of topics including studies of disease-related proteins, analyses of rare disease mutations, gene expression analyses of rare disease genes, genotype-phenotype correlations, studies of animal models, and novel clinical findings.

Rare Diseases publishes several types of articles including original research manuscripts, reviews, addenda, highlights from foundations devoted to rare diseases, and discussions about rare disease diagnoses.  Reviews and addenda will typically be invited, although foundations may submit highlight articles at any time.  We also anticipate special issues dedicated to a particular rare disease or a related group of diseases. Suggestions for topics are welcome.
