The peer-reviewed Russian Journal of Mathematical Physics addresses a broad range of topics, including functional analysis, linear and partial differential equations, algebras, modern differential and algebraic geometry and topology, representations of Lie groups, calculus of variations, asymptotic methods, random process theory, dynamical systems, and control theory. The journal presents mainly original papers with full proof, but also publishes brief communications and state-of-the-art reviews. In addition to purely mathematical papers, the journal is hospitable to theses with less rigorous, or 'physical', levels of proof, which are sometimes useful and lead to major advances in science, as well as to analyses based on the heuristic or speculative approaches. Recently-declassified classic papers will also finally see the light of day.The journal is international in scope, and invites papers in English from mathematical physicists everywhere.
The journal, published bimonthly, provides English translations of selected new original Russian papers on the theoretical aspects of numerical analysis and the application of mathematical methods to simulation and modelling. The editorial board, consisting of the most prominent Russian scientists in numerical analysis and mathematical modelling, select papers on the basis of their high scientific standard, innovative approach and topical interest.Papers are published in the following areas:* numerical analysis* numerical linear algebra* finite element methods for PDEs* iterative methods* Monte-Carlo methods* mathematical modelling and numerical simulation in geophysical hydrodynamics, immunology and medicine, fluid mechanics and electrodynamics, geosciences.
Founded in 1957 by the Ministry of Higher and Special Secondary Education of the USSR and by Kazan State University, the journal encompasses the most significant research in both pure and applied mathematics, which is carried out by scientists of Russian universities, institutions of higher education, and the Russian Academy of Sciences. The articles of well-known mathematicians from the C.I.S. and other countries are also published. Some issues have a thematic character, but they are of general interest.
The SIAM Journal on Applied Dynamical Systems (SIADS) publishes research articles on the mathematical analysis and modeling of dynamical systems and its application to the physical, engineering, life, and social sciences. SIADS is published in electronic format only. The use of color, animated visualizations, and internal linking is strongly encouraged where it enhances the exposition, but papers without these enhancements are accepted as well; review is based on research content.Submitted articles should contribute either to the theory of dynamical systems, to the understanding of dynamical systems phenomena through experiment or numerical simulation, or to the use of dynamical systems methods in applications.
The SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics publishes research articles that treat scientific problems using methods that are of mathematical interest. Appropriate subject areas include the physical, engineering, financial, and life sciences. Examples are problems in fluid mechanics, including reaction-diffusion problems, sedimentation, combustion, and transport theory; solid mechanics; elasticity; electromagnetic theory and optics; mathematical biology, including population dynamics, biomechanics, and physiology; linear and nonlinear wave propagation, including scattering theory and wave propagation in random media; inverse problems; nonlinear dynamics; stochastic processes, including queueing theory and finance; signal processing; and image processing. Mathematical techniques include asymptotic methods, bifurcation theory, dynamical systems theory, and probabilistic and statistical methods.
The SIAM Journal on Computing contains research articles on the mathematical and formal aspects of computer science and nonnumerical computing. Topics include analysis and design of algorithms, data structures, computational complexity, computational algebra, computational aspects of combinatorics and graph theory, computational geometry, computational robotics, the mathematical aspects of programming languages, artificial intelligence, computational learning, databases, information retrieval, cryptography, networks, distributed computing, parallel algorithms, and computer architecture.
The SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization contains research articles on the mathematics and applications of control theory and on those parts of optimization theory concerned with the dynamics of deterministic or stochastic systems in continuous or discrete time or otherwise dealing with differential equations, dynamics, infinite-dimensional spaces, or fundamental issues in variational analysis and geometry.
The SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics publishes research articles on a broad range of topics from pure and applied mathematics including combinatorics and graph theory, discrete optimization and operations research, theoretical computer science, and coding and communication theory.
The SIAM Journal on Imaging Sciences covers all areas of imaging sciences, broadly interpreted. It includes image formation, image processing, image analysis, image interpretation and understanding, computer graphics and visualization, and inverse problems in imaging; leading to applications to diverse areas in science, medicine, engineering, and other fields. Formal approaches, at the level of mathematics and/or computations, as well as state-of-the-art practical results, are expected from manuscripts published in SIIMS. SIIMS provides a broad authoritative source for fundamental results in imaging sciences, with a unique combination of mathematics and applications. SIIMS is mathematically and computationally based, and offers a unique forum to highlight the commonality of methodology, models, and algorithms among diverse application areas of imaging sciences.Authors are encouraged to exploit the endless possibilities of an electronic publication with the use of color, animations, video, presentations, and additional supplementary material as detailed in the instructions for authors. SIIMS provides cross-referencing with the peer-reviewed journal Image Processing On Line (IPOL). We encourage authors to submit their algorithm description and software to IPOL in order to increase the visibility of their work and the potential for collaboration between researchers.Research papers that innovate both in the fundamentals and in the applications are especially welcome. SIIMS focuses on conceptually new ideas, methods, and fundamentals as applied to all aspects of imaging sciences.
The SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis features research articles of the highest quality employing innovative analytical techniques to treat problems in the natural sciences. Every paper has content that is primarily analytical and that employs mathematical methods in such areas as partial differential equations, the calculus of variations, functional analysis, approximation theory, harmonic or wavelet analysis, or dynamical systems. Additionally, every paper relates to a model for natural phenomena in such areas as fluid mechanics, materials science, quantum mechanics, biomathematics, mathematical physics, or to the computational analysis of such phenomena.
The SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications publishes research articles in matrix analysis and its applications and papers of interest to the numerical linear algebra community. Survey and Review features papers with a deliberately integrative and up-to-date perspective on a major topic in applied or computational mathematics or scientific computing. Expository Research Papers contains research papers in applied mathematics and scientific computation that have appeal to a broad audience and feature a high quality of exposition. SIGEST highlights a recent paper from one of SIAM's eleven specialized research journals, chosen on the basis of exceptional interest to the entire SIAM community and revised and condensed as needed for greater accessibility. Education consists primarily of individual modules that are self-contained presentations of specific topics in applied mathematics, scientific computation, or their applications; each module provides the primary material needed to teach a given topic as well as supplementary material. The Book Reviews section contains a featured review that provides an overview of several books in a subject area. Shorter reviews of individual books are also included.
